Philosophy And The Matrix via Berto : “This is a documentary about the film The Matrix and its relationship to philosophy and philosophical themes. The discussion is broad, and explains how masterfully and seamlessly the movie touches on everything from Socrates, Plato, Descartes, Berkeley, Kant, Nietzsche, Baudrillard, Borges, Nozick, LaPlace, Hume, Schopenhauer to religion, meaning, purpose, causality, free will, consciousness, love, intuition, etc. Some big names are interviewed; among them John Searle, David Chalmers, Cornel West, Colin McGin and Daniel Dennett.” (1 of 8)

This is a genuinely fascinating documentary, you should definitely click through to the other 7 parts on Youtube.

I had not seen this before. I’m a huge fan of both the trilogy and the animatrix series. The first of the Matrix movies was so utterly ground-breaking, I remember the entire of my school being caught up in a Matrix craze for about a month when it came out.

I think I was 15 years old when the first Matrix was released. I was disappointed with the third movie because I wanted to find out that the “real” world was actually another control mechanism for those that escaped the Matrix.

Aged 16, I attended an airsoft (paintballing, but better) war and was on the opposing team to a lunatic dressed up like Neo. Everyone there thought this was genius, but it didn’t look as cool once he was covered in dirt. Only using two pistols to “stay in character”, he found himself out of ammo quite often.

Not only were the movies fantastic, I think it’s even more special that I actually have a small collection of memories that it helps me to recall from my teenage years.
